Today we’re beginning a full renovation to a home in Howard County, Maryland! OE Custom and Maryland Wood Countertops will be working together to bring a 1970’s home to 2014 with modern updates and custom accents throughout. For your viewing pleasure we’ll be documenting the process from the initial walk through to the completion of the build. It will include decisions in the design process along with images from the construction and shop-build processes.
The site of the project is Chateau Ridge Court in Ellicott City, Maryland.
Neighborhood information: Ellicott City, Maryland is located in Howard County and is part of the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area. Ellicott City has a total area of 30 square miles.
Ellicott City was the framework of the Industrial Revolution in Maryland and started out as just a tiny trade center for Ellicott Mills, a flour mill established in 1772 by Quaker brothers from Pennsylvania. Rather than carrying in the traditional tobacco plantation, the brothers thrived on wheat growth and distribution.
Vivid buildings spanning three centuries of changing accessories, food, gift shops, antique and collectible stores and picturesque storefronts that appear to have not changed since they were originally constructed. The “downtown” area is known as “Historic Ellicott City”.
It houses a stop for the B&O Railroad Museum, located within the third wealthiest county in the United States.
Chateau Ridge, specifically, is the establishment of multiple homes built primarily in the 1970’s that share similar exteriors.
The home being documented was built in 1972 and is a 2,120 square foot standard unit on a 34,262 square foot plot of land. It currently has an attached two-car garage, four bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms on two stories.
Now that we’ve seen the lay of the land, we’ll be working to put together some as-built drawings / plans so that we can begin the design portion of the complete renovation. Getting excited!
